Submission Guidelines for Guest Posts, Book Reviews, and Mini-Memoirs

Guest posts
I welcome your guest post on just about any aspect of writing memoir, biography, or family history. Please scroll through my blog to see topics I have covered. Your different slant on a topic I have covered is acceptable. Your topics could include:
  • Book review (see below).
  • Mini-memoir (see below).
  • Your struggles and successes in writing your memoir, biography, or family history.
  • Top 10 lists.
  • How-to articles or tips on writing issues.
  • Author interviews. You interview someone or I interview you.
  • A nonfiction story that shows outstanding storytelling techniques. Personal experiences are welcome.
  • Other topics you may suggest related to writing memoir, biography, or family history.
By submitting an article you are certifying it is your original work. Your article should inform, educate, and inspire rather than blatantly self-promote. Although previously unpublished articles are preferred, if your article was previously published please cite the location and date by narrative or link. Links to resources in your article are accepted.

Articles should be 400 to 800 words. Mini-memoirs may be longer; see below. If I post your article there is no payment; you will receive a byline with your photo and a link to your website or blog. Please use the contact form to send your idea for a topic and a brief statement of your qualifications to write on the topic. You may send a completed article. Articles are subject to editing. Submissions will not be acknowledged unless selected for posting.* Do not send your photo unless requested.

If you wish to exchange posts, please tell what you want to write on and what you want me to write on. If we exchange, the following will appear with your article on my blog: "This week I exchanged posts with Your Name. See my article at Your Blog Address."

Book review
I welcome your book review of memoir, biography, and how-to books on writing those. Posted reviews also will be listed at Book Reviews with bylines; go there for links to books reviewed and select a link to see the format. I will provide a photo for a posted review, usually of the book's cover or principal; do send your photo unless requested. Your review does not have to be a glowing endorsement; there are flaws in every author's work. However, all-out bashing is unacceptable.

Reviews should be 400 to 800 words and not previously published. If I post your review there is no payment; you will receive a byline and a link to your website and sales site. Please send your review using the contact form. Include your bio of no more than 50 words. Reviews are subject to editing. Submissions will not be acknowledged unless selected for posting.* You may submit several reviews in a calendar year. In the event two or more writers submit reviews of the same book, only one review will be considered.

Mini-Memoir
As with full-length memoirs, mini-memoirs are accounts of the writers’ personal experiences. I would like to publish your personal experiences here. Send your account of 500 to 1,000 words using my contact form. Proofread your submission for spelling, grammar, and punctuation before submitting. Submissions subject to editing and will not be acknowledged unless selected for posting*
